Salary Range:
This compensation range considers a wide range of factors, including, but not limited to, skill set, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate is not adjusted for geographic differential associated with the location where the position may be filled. At One Call, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Health Information Technician constructs and repairs data elements for unbilled referrals and provides expertise required for accurate coding. The Health Information Technician researches medical documentation to determine the most specific and appropriate code to describe injuries and illnesses of injured workers. By reducing electronic rejections and adjudicated denials due to non-billable diagnosis codes, this role enhances first pass pay rate, reduces days sales outstanding and builds customer confidence in One Call capability. Serves as a resource to Operations, Billing and Accounts Receivable in resolution of coding, billing and root cause reimbursement inquiries.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works daily risk report to research and repair invalid coded data elements in injured workers claim data.
- Works daily suspense report of billing transactions on hold to research and repair missing and invalid coded data elements.
- Uses a daily report of new referrals and a government provided portal to discover accepted diagnosis codes for Federal employees and inputs codes in injured workers’ claim file.
- Receives emailed, telephonic and system routed requests for coding assistance. Uses medical information and documentation to research and code illnesses, injuries and symptoms.
- Contributes to other data and administrative projects as required.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High School diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s Degree (A.A. or A.S.) is preferred.
- Coding certification by an accredited organization or a school granted certification by one of these organizations or by a regional agency granting institutional accreditation to properly accredited schools.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Must have a customer focused approach to tasks and responsibilities.
- Intermediate Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook skills required.
- Ability to receive training and demonstrate proficiency in proprietary software.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be detail oriented and have the ability to multi-task,
- Must be able to follow instructions, prioritize and meet strict daily deadlines.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- This position will be performed in the colleague’s home. Work-from-home requirements include the colleague’s ability to set up computer equipment within their home office.
- This job is primarily sedentary and may involve repetitive motions; the colleague must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time, operate a computer and other office equipment, assess information and files stored electronically, and converse/exchange accurate information with others, simultaneously.
- The colleague must be able to discern text displayed on a monitor, input data into specific fields using a keyboard, and adjust focus to distances of up to three feet.
- The colleague must have the ability to learn new tasks, follow established processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, complete multiple tasks simultaneously, communicate professionally with colleagues and customers, and complete tasks in situations that have a speed or productivity requirement.
- The colleague must be able to manage moderate to significant mental stress as a result of, but not limited to, a dynamic and heavy workload.

Heath Information Technician II
Intermediate role. Applies moderate skills to job or specialization. May adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment and techniques to meet more complex requirements of job. Duties and tasks are somewhat routine, although most questions and problems are resolved by the incumbent. Consults with senior peers on semi-complex processes to learn through experience. Works under general supervision. Requires a High School diploma and typically a minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience in medical coding and/or billing experience.
