Salary Range:

This compensation range takes into consideration a wide range of factors, including, but not limited to, skill set, experience and training, licensure and certifications and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate is not adjusted for geographic differential associated with the location where the position may be filled. At One Call, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.

 JOB SUMMARY: 

The Database Developer is responsible for database design creation coding implementation testing maintenance and troubleshooting for software applications. 

 

GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Establishes database management systems standards guidelines and quality assurance for database deliverables such as conceptual design logical database capacity planning external data interface specification data loading plan data maintenance plan and security policy. 

• Evaluates designs codes and implements optimizes and modifies databases and database applications with respect to JCL access methods access time device allocation validation checks organization protection and security documentation and statistical methods. 

• Builds windows screens and reports and assist in the design of user interface and business application prototypes as needed. 

• Participates in quality assurance and develops test application code in client server environment.  

• Provides expertise in devising negotiating and defending the tables and fields provided in the database.  

• Adapts business requirements developed by business systems analysts/modeling/development staff and develops the data database specifications and table and element attributes for an application. 

• Models databases and develops tables stored procedures views triggers and other database objects. 

• Maintains database dictionaries monitors overall database standards and procedures and integrates systems through database design. 

• Works closely with other developers to integrate databases with other applications. 

• Provides leadership and/or guidance to other technical professionals. 

• Performs other related duties as assigned. 

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 

Bachelor’s (B.A. or B.S.) or Master’s degree (M.A. or M.S.) in Computer Science Information Systems or the equivalent combination of education training and/or work experience.  

 

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES: 

• Knowledge of database utilities on multiple hardware/software platforms using multiple database engines. 

• Knowledge of end-to-end systems development life cycles (i.e. waterfall iterative and other modern approaches to software development). 

• Proficiency to create and support database technical environments. 

• Proficiency in business modeling and requirements definition disciplines through Unified Modeling Language (UML) use cases etc. 

• Excellent customer service skills that build high levels of customer satisfaction for internal and external customers. 

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to technical and non-technical audiences of various levels in the organization (e.g. executive management individual contributors). 

• Shares willingly relevant technical and/or industry knowledge and expertise to other resources. 

• Excellent decision-making problem-solving team and time management skills. 

• Is resourceful and proactive in gathering information and sharing ideas. 

• Ability to estimate work effort for project sub-plans or small projects and ensure the project is successfully completed. 

 

PHYSICAL/EMOTIONAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENTS: 

• For roles located in office or home settings; this job is primarily sedentary and may involve repetitive motions; the employee is regularly required to sit use hands and fingers speak and hear. 

• For roles located in the field; this job is primarily active; the employee is regularly mobile and must be able to utilize transportation (such as driving) sit use hands and fingers speak and hear. 

• The employee is occasionally required to stand walk and lift objects (up to 10 lbs. weight; up to 4 ft. height). 

• Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to see things from a close distance and ability to adjust focus. 

• The work environment utilizes florescent lighting; noise level is moderate.

Job Levels 

Database Developer 

Entry level role. Basic skills with moderate level of proficiency. Has general understanding of the department. Works under close to moderate supervision with to ensure accuracy. Consults with senior peers on processes or errors to learn through experience. Typically requires up to one (1) year of working in the department or equivalent experience.  

Database Developer II 

Intermediate role. Moderate skills with high level of proficiency. Has complete understanding of the Database Developer department. Handles calls which are predominantly routine but associate must be able to deviate from standard scripts and procedures as needed May coach more junior technical staff. Works under general supervision with latitude for independent judgment. May consult with senior peers on more complex issues. Typically requires a minimum of two (2) or more years of working in the Database Developer department with at least one (1) year working as a Database Developer I.
